An Ounce of (Flu) Prevention
Wash hands regularly ... cough or sneeze into your bend elbow or a tissue ... avoid contact with people who are sick. These are the common-sense practices Milton Hershey School is advising students and staff to take to avoid the flu - and the H1N1, or swine flu, in particular.
All students on campus have received flu vaccines, and the vaccine also was made available to staff members. Students will receive the H1N1 vaccine if the School is given a supply.
An outbreak of flu on the MHS campus last June led to an early end to the 2008-09 school year and dampened annual commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2009.
MHS is following Centers for Disease Control Guidelines and is planning to remain open and operational should a flu outbreak hit campus this fall. The School is isolating students who are sick with the flu to help stem the spread of the virus. MHS also has the capability to do rapid-screen testing for the flu.
