HE&R Partnerships: Milton Hershey School students prepare for success
Wednesday, June 16, 2010
In addition to building skills and character through academics, home life, and co- curricular activities, Milton Hershey School offers students many opportunities to learn through hands-on real life activities. An educational employment opportunity not only teaches students vital workplace skills, but offers them a chance to put into practice the skills they have learned in career technical classes, build a resume, explore career goals, and learn professional workplace behaviors.
In addition to part-time employment opportunities, Hershey Entertainment & Resorts offers internships and co-op education experiences to MHS students. These students have worked in a variety of departments including Finance, Marketing/Graphic Design, Legal, Diversity & Inclusion, and at positions at Hershey Lodge, The Hotel Hershey, The Spa, and Hershey Gardens.
One partnership developed during the 2008-09 school year was the Co-Operative Education Culinary Rotation for culinary arts students. This year (2009-2010), three HE&R locations were selected to participate: Devon Seafood Grill, Hershey Country Club/Links, and The Hotel Hershey. Three students ? Raymond Hasker, Jaron Spuck and Cory Fitzgerald ? rotated every nine weeks.
Through this partnership, these students had the opportunity to work with world-renowned chefs, learn about culinary careers firsthand, and put into practice the culinary skills learned in their classroom studies.
All three students are seniors graduating in June, and each one plans to continue in the culinary field. Ray Hasker will attend Culinary Institute of America in New York City. Jaron Spuck and Cory Fitzgerald will both be attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts.
